Wine: Red Meerlust
Variety: CF, Merlot, CS
Origin: Stellenbosch, South Africa
Viticulture: Clay sub-soil with granite gravel top-soil from the volcanic activity from ancient history.
Benefit from the cooling effect of the prevailing winds coming from the ocean, hot Cape summers that allows slow ripening of the grapes with cold winters and heavy rains.
Winemaking: Well-known Cape Town architectural site, beautiful cellar, traditional but modernized with equipments that ensure careful handling of the grapes.
Tasting notes by Meerlust: A blend of CF, Merlot and CS aged in French oak for 16 months. Intense red fruit combines with floral, spicy notes in a medium-bodied wine with a soft, silky texture for immediate enjoyment or up to 8 years bottle maturation.
My tasting notes: Already beautiful tertiary flavours in the palate, earthy, leafy with black fruit (blackberry, black cherry) and pepper notes.
