Grand Vin de Léoville - Saint-Julien, Bordeaux
Updated: Apr 1
The King of St. Julien, Grand Vin de Léoville du Marquis de Las Cases is known as the greatest of St. Julien or super seconds. Château Léoville Las Cases lies in the center of Haut-Médoc, in the north east, close to Pauillac and the city of St. Julien-Beychevelle. The terroir is mainly quaternary gravel with gravely clay subsoils, where the water filters through the stones, supplies water in the clay and the rest is drained to the river, that also creates a special microclimate that protects the grapes from frost and encourages early ripening.
This vintage is made out of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc with a finishing of 4% of Petit Verdot. It is a 100/100 points according to Jane Anson, the greatest wine, Michel Delon, then owner ever made, a stunning wine, still fresh but a long way left to go. Anticipated maturity 2035 according to Richard Parker.
