From humble beginnings making wine in his family garage and maturing his first wine Cueva de Contador in an ancient cave, Benjamin Romeo has quickly become one of Rioja's most impressive winemakers. Founded in 1995, already vintage 2004/2005 Contador wines received 100 points scores from Robert Parker. Thanks to these successes Romeo was able to further expand his operation and in 2008 he built a state-of-the-art winery designed by Hector Herrera in the charming village of San Vincent de la Sonsierra. Modern winemaking approach to craft elegant yet powerful Riojas, Romeo carefully vilifies the grapes from 62 vineyard sites, separately and ages the young wines in new French oak for up to 20 months. - Oeno
Although with certainty the wine "Contador" has its presence in the fine wine industry, I very much LOVED the Benjamín Romeo Colección No. 2, Gran Reserva, 2011, the wine was aged 30 months in Crianza Barrel and an additional of 36 months in bottle, vs. 18 months of total ageing for Contador, 2016. Imagine the explosion in your palate.
La Cueva del Contador-The wine comes from specially chosen Tempranillo vines. The vines are 40-60 years old. The posts vary each vintage but are usually in the middle-high land from San Vicente de la Sonsierra. A great wine with great balance and potential.

Saludos, Susana.
